I love that line from the movie The Sixth Sense.?It popped in my head last night and it just won't go away.?So I took that as a sign that I was supposed to blog about it.Six weeks ago I asked my 13yr old son if he wanted to start running with me.?I told him that I would do the whole Couch to 5k program with him, though I had already completed it.?My son has always been a big kid and as he grows up he is more and more unhappy about it.?As a person that knows the struggle he is facing and knowing how successful this program was, imagine my delight when he said he wanted to do it.: ) So I mention it a couple times a week, every week since then.?I don't want to be pushy, I want this to continue to be his choice.?He tells me he doesn't want to run on the weekends.?Ok that is cool, we can do it during the week.?He says he doesn't want to run in the mornings.?

He says he doesn't want to run in the mornings.?Ok that is also cool, we can run in the evenings.?He says he needs new shoes.?Ok that is WAY cool, because I bought him a pair and was waiting to give them to him.?Still we are not starting our mother/son running program..hmmm.So a week ago he asks me for a new pair of shoes.?He has been eyeing this pair of Vans and doesn't *need* them, he just wants them.?Well, I am all about rewards for meeting a goal, so I tell him that after we complete two weeks of the C25K that he will get the shoes as his reward for sticking with it.?We were out shopping yesterday and he brings up the shoes again and I remind him of our deal.?He senses that this mama isn't going to budge so when we get home he puts on his new shoes and my Ipod and cranks up Robert Ullrey's week one of the C25K and hops on the treadmill.?I hear him speeding up for his 60 seconds and then slowing down for his recovery.?

I hear him speeding up for his 60 seconds and then slowing down for his recovery.?Half way through he asks me to bring him some water and I gladly bring him a bottle of cold water.?I spent the second half of his program standing next to the treadmill, talking to him during the recovery intervals.?The last run, I even cranked the treadmill up a little bit more and his eyes bulged out of his head, but he keeps running.?So after his run was over, he is standing there drinking another bottle of water and he says to me, "I feel good.?I don't feel tired, my body just feels really good."?I tell him that what he is feeling is the endorphine rush that you get after a good workout.?I showed him how to stretch his legs so he doesn't get too stiff.?He asked me what happens after week two (since he knows his will earn his shoes then) and I told him that we then venture outside and finish the program together.?I am so proud of him.?I realize that it is only one day, but it only takes one day to change your life.?
