They're at the bridge.They've been there for an hour and I'm going insane wanting to know what's happening.I don't know what Joe is capable of, charm wise, and I don't want to know.Especially with Kaci.The door finally shut as Joe came in and I ran into the hallway, meeting him halfway to his room."What happened?"I asked anxiously.Joe smiled and shrugged innocently as he walked into his room."Joe," I begged, following him into his room."I'm taking her to the movies tomorrow," Joe finally said."Movies?"I asked."Yeah," Joe said, giving me a nod."So are you two are like, dating?"I asked carefully."Not officially.It's just the movies, Nick," Joe said."Okay," I said trying to stay calm.I nodded, more to myself than Joe, and turned to leave the room."Oh, Nick?"I heard Joe ask as I entered the hallway."Yeah?"I asked looking back at him."Um...I need help," Joe said slowly."With what?"I asked."She really liked that she got a letter.She said it was original," he said.I smiled inwardly, but then frowned as I was catching on."And?"I asked."Well, I was going to keep writing her, you know?But I suck at it, so I was kind of hoping that you could...you know," he said carefully."Write her more letters," I said, finishing his thought."Yeah," Joe said with a nod."Joe, I don't know.Don't you think the letters should be personal and from you?"I asked."She won't know, Nick. |
| I asked."She won't know, Nick.I'll copy them so they're in my hand-writing, and change a few words if I need to.You'd be helping me out here, and you do owe me one," Joe replied."I do not," I argued."Oh really?No, Mom, I have no idea where the muddy horse hoof prints came from," Joe said giving me a look."It was a pony and I was eight!"I exclaimed."She still doesn't know it was you that brought it inside," Joe pointed out."This is blackmail," I said."No, it's not.It's just you doing me a favor," Joe said."Fine.I'll write some, but I stop when I want to.Deal?"I asked, eyeing him."Deal," Joe said with a smile.I turned back around and walked into my room shutting the door.What did I just agree to do?"So, what movie are you guys seeing?"I asked Kaci when she called awhile later.I had listened to her gloat about the evening and about how sweet Joe had been and I was feeling rather sick."I don't know yet," she replied happily."Well, have fun," I said trying to sound sincere."I will I'm sure.Oh, did I tell you he's going to write me more letters?Isn't that romantic and original?" she asked, almost squealing."Yeah?That's cool," I said trying not to gag."Are you okay?" she asked me."I'm fine.I think I'm coming down with something," I lied.She likes Joe now.I missed my chance and there's no way I can tell her now. |
